What is Team Coaching?
Systemic Team Coaching
Systemic team coaching, is a holistic approach that considers the team as a whole in its context - its task, dynamics, relationships and the key systems within which it operates, all to help the team do what it needs to do, or be what it needs to be. I prefer to work in this way as it tends to create more lasting change.
It involves the team, working with a coach, to identify and address things like communication breakdowns, conflicting goals and values, unclear roles and responsibilities and power dynamics.
The team works with the coach to bring this things to their awareness, and to figure out long lasting strategies to help them perform at their best.
Teams are powerful, they are the building blocks of many organisations, and when they click, they can move mountains.
What are the benefits of Team Coaching?
Overall, systemic team coaching is designed to help teams create more value for their stakeholders, work more effectively together by addressing underlying systemic issues and creating a more cohesive, and positive team culture.
From a client's perspective, systemic team coaching can offer several benefits. Some significant ones are:
Improved Team Performance
By identifying and addressing barriers such as communication breakdowns, conflicts, and power imbalances, teams can work more effectively together and achieve better results.
Better Collaboration and Communication
It helps team members develop a shared understanding, build trust, and improve their ability to work together. This leads to smoother interactions, reduced misunderstandings, and more effective problem-solving.
Clarity of Roles and Responsibilities
Systemic team coaching assists teams in clarifying roles and responsibilities. It ensures that team members have a clear understanding of their individual contributions, which reduces ambiguity and minimizes potential conflicts arising from role confusion.
Increased Engagement and Motivation
When team members feel valued, heard, and supported, they are more likely to be committed to their work and contribute their best efforts.
Development of shared leadership
It helps the team develop leadership skills such as facilitation, communication, and conflict resolution. As a result, leaders can create an environment that fosters collaboration, innovation, and high performance.

I have had the good fortune to have attended a course when John was one of the faculty and have also been in a supervision group run by him following the course for the last 18 months. John is both thorough in his preparation for his work and able to be attentive to the moment and to flex with the needs of a group. He is able to be appropriately vulnerable and courageously challenging when required and I find his style engaging and open with an ability to be light hearted and serious as the situation requires. Working with John is a pleasure, a joy, a challenge and always a development opportunity.

I have been fortunate enough to work with John delivering programs for clients and as a client, over 10 years both in the UK and throughout MENA. John’s work as a facilitator is exemplary, with outstanding client and delegate feedback, but his coaching and senior leadership development programs are what I and my clients have found to be transformational.
His laidback, curious and intelligent outlook, combined with many decades experience as both an entrepreneur, senior lead and SME business owner, allows John to understand the commercial, operational and, most importantly, human element of his clients’ businesses.
His engagements are always designed to explore first, before plotting a route forward, a refreshing change from the copy/paste templates so common in the industry.
